MAY 2015

Saturday 23 May 2015

We all gathered at our house for a lovely Shavuot dinner prepared by Ettie, eveybody's favorite was the cassata then we all went to listen to a lecture on Torah, known as Tikun Leyl Shavuot, an old custom of being busy with the study of Torah at the exact moment that God gave the Jewish People the Torah on Mt. Sinai, according to trandition, at midnight. You can't believe the crowd of people walking around the center of Jerusalem in the middle of the night in search of a lecture to attend. All the venues were full, we tried the Begin Center and waited in a line but only to find that there was no place in the lecture hall, then we went to Mishkenot Shaananim, where there was a university study group known as havruta, but we didn't feel part of the student crowd so Alma (cousing Lavi's cute 5 year old daughter) and I ate some delcious grapes, drank some orange juice, ate some beigles and cakes then returned empty of Torah but full of tasty eats, to Ettie and Lavi then took ourselves home to bed.

At home helping Ettie prepare for our Shavuot celebration with the family. I only peal, tasting isn't allowed. Now I can take a break and sit on my lovely balcony surrounded by flowers in Pots and looking out over the Judean Desert, reading my Book, The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman, full of small stories of characters you only meet in bars, brothels, boxing rings and gambling houses of 200 years ago, skillfully written in the style and language of those times. I had to stop and check to see if the authoress lived in those times.
